The theory will be either enhanced or decreased depending on a number of factors such as the person’s moral values, social upbringing, and social status at work, religious views, culture, and more. When a person makes a decision, such as calling into work sick when he or she are not sick may have a number of consequences.The first may be the person’s conscience and the possibility of getting caught in the act of a lie, and a number of possible negative consequences. Why a person may decide to call in sick when he or she are not sick may be something another person cannot fathom. However, cognitive dissonance is a powerful psychological study and reality in the life of a person.
Describe the situation and subsequent behavior A person who calls in sick even though he or she are not has subsequent behavior, which is a onetime deal. The behavior can be something that continues every other month.A person who plans on calling in sick will prepare for it in a few days and the day before they call in the symptoms may start to occur like if they have the flu. People will do research to see what symptoms should be starting to occur on the day before calling in sick. The thought is that way they do not look suspicious. When he or she calls in sick, he or she should stay away from any sort of social outlet like Facebook. They should also call the boss early in the am because a person’s voice is rough and scratchy.
That way the boss would not know the difference. If a person does not feel comfortable calling, send the boss a text, but do not go into detail. Also, let the boss know that the doctor’s office has been called, but cannot get in until later in the week. Discuss possible explanations for the behavior using attribution theory There can be many explanations for why an employee would call in sick to work when he or she is not really sick. One reason could be explained through the attribution theory. The attribution theory explains the behavior like this can be explained by attributing it to either the employee’s internal disposition or to an external situation.
The employee’s internal disposition could be that the employee always seems to have a bad attitude to his or her job duties and that his or her personality is pessimistic or lazy. The employee’s external situation could be that he or she has a manager who is constantly micro-managing them, which makes them unhappy at work, or the employee has a coworker who is their counterpart who is slacking at work. The employee may have to work harder at the job than the other employee to get their collective tasks completed.This may lead to the employee calling out sick because of his or her internal disposition – they are just lazy and do not want to work and may be hoping to lose their job so that they can collect unemployment and sit at home all day. The actions may lead the employee to call in sick because of their external situation. He or she may be stressed and do not want to go to work to deal with their manager or to make the employee who is his or her counterpart work harder, to see what it is like to pull the full weight of the job’s responsibilities.
Cognitive Dissonance Theory Paper 4 Describe the reciprocal relationship between behavior and attitudes When a person calls in sick to his or her job when he or she are really not sick the relationship between behavior and attitudes depends on the person who is calling in. Attitude reflect upon our behavior for instance he or she called into work claiming he or she was sick and were not, but the attitude was that he or she just didn’t want to deal with the people that day.The person worked in a mental health facility it wasn’t the clients that he or she did not want to see, it was the staff. Most of the staff did not do their work and left the employee to do it all while the doors were shut to keep people out. The rest of the employees spent an hour or so talking while he or she was taking care of 20 people and entertaining them.
Now the behavior was reflected by an attitude of “do not care” behavior. The employee would not go out in public, stayed home and relaxed, tried to calm down and change the attitude to a positive one.Some people can have a good attitude and behavior when calling in or some may have a bad attitude and behavior I do believe that it depends on the stress level or the social environment of that person. Explain how the individual could have used cognitive dissonance theory to rationalize his or her behavior. The decision to call in sick and not go to work may seem like a risky decision. However, by using cognitive dissonance the individual can justify calling in sick by thinking that there is a headache or stomach ache coming on.By calling in sick the individual may think about the consequences of possibly being put on probation or even being fired; however, the alternative means a good day at home without going to work, relaxing, and forgetting about the possible consequences. Cognitive dissonance allows the person to believe that the benefit of staying home far outweighs any dangers or repercussions.
Cognitive Dissonance Theory Paper 5 The Belief Disconfirmation Program convinces people things are inconsistent with their beliefs.Deciding to call into work sick when, in fact the person is healthy brings values and morals to the forefront of the brain. Knowing that doing so will go against how the person was raised, but the need not to go to work is vital. Any consequences after the fact, such as being notified that probationary action will be taken because calling in sick has become a habit. The dissonance creates a change in thinking and the individual blames management for creating the new dilemma he or she are in with their job.
Lessoning the thoughts prior to calling in sick and replacing them with blame changed the dissonance through unreasonable reality. Conclusion When calling into work sick and not really be sick. What may have been the situation or behavior of that person at the time of calling in? Everyone once in his or her life will call into work sick or not and take a day off rather it be right or wrong they take the chance. Even though that everyone does this to relax and have fun in his or her life, and the attitude is that nobody would know or care, it is not right to call in sick when not sick.
